J’espère que vous allez bien. De mon côté, j’ai essayé d'aborder le mois de novembre avec un peu de calme et de sérénité après un mois d’octobre sur les chapeaux de roue! J’ai toujours des tas de photos en stock (Colorado, Mexique, Halloween...) mais j’ai eu envie de poster rapidement celles de mon dimanche matin à Central Park. C’est mon troisième automne à New York mais je n’avais jamais pris le temps d’y venir à cette saison. Cela valait sans doute le coup d’attendre, les couleurs étaient magnifiques.

I hope you’re doing well. I tried to approach the month of November with a little calm and serenity after October got off to a flying start! I still have lots to share with you (Colorado, Mexico, Halloween...) but I wanted to quickly post my Sunday morning photos of Central Park. This is my third fall in New York but I never took the time to go during the fall. It was probably worth the wait, the colors were beautiful.

Entrée du parc : Central Park West & 72nd Street
Strawberry Fields commémore le musicien et militant de la paix britannique John Lennon (1940-1980). Le monument se compose d’un paysage près de l’entrée de la 72e rue Ouest et comprend la mosaïque Imagine, où beaucoup viennent rendre hommage à Lennon. Le nom du monument fait référence à la chanson de 1967 que Lennon a écrite et interprétée avec les Beatles, « Strawberry Fields Forever ».
Strawberry Fields is a memorial to the British musician and peace activist John Lennon (1940–1980). The memorial consists of a landscape near the West 72nd Street entrance and includes the Imagine mosaic, where many come to pay tribute to Lennon. The memorial’s name is a reference to the 1967 song Lennon wrote and performed with the Beatles, “Strawberry Fields Forever.”
Le San Remo (au centre avec les échafaudages) est le premier bâtiment à deux tours à s’élever à New York et cela l'a rendu célèbre quand il a été construit en 1930. Conçu par le célèbre architecte Emery Roth, il porte le nom d’un hôtel qui occupait le même emplacement. Les résidents passés et présents du bâtiment comprennent des personnalités célèbres comme Steven Spielberg, Demi Moore, Dustin Hoffman, Tiger Woods...
The San Remo is the first twin-towered building to rise in New York and its precedent-setting design gained it fame when it was built in 1930. Designed by the acclaimed architect Emery Roth, it was named for a hotel that previously occupied the same spot and converted into a cooperative in 1972. Past and present residents of the building include such famous personalities as Steven Spielberg, Demi Moore, Dustin Hoffman, Tiger Woods...
Bow Bridge est l’un des endroits les plus emblématiques et photographiés de Central Park. Construit en 1862, ce pont de l’époque victorienne enjambe le lac et relie Cherry Hill et le Ramble. Il tire son nom de sa gracieuse forme d’arc. C’est le plus ancien pont en fonte de Central Park (également l’un des seuls), et c’est le deuxième plus ancien pont en fonte des États-Unis. Il a été conçu par Calvert Vaux et Jacob Wrey Mould avec le raffinement grec classique, incorporant des éléments de conception gothique, néo-classique et Renaissance. Il a fourni un cadre magnifique pour des films tels que Manhattan, The Way We Were et Keeping the Faith.
Bow Bridge is one of the most iconic and photographed features of Central Park. Built in 1862, this Victorian-era bridge spans 60 feet across the Central Park Lake and connects Cherry Hill and the Ramble. It gets its name from its graceful arc shape which resembles that of an archer's bow. It is the oldest cast-iron bridge in Central Park (also one of the only), and it is the second-oldest cast-iron bridge in the entire United States. It was designed by Calvert Vaux and Jacob Wrey Mould with Classical Greek refinement, incorporating elements of Gothic, Neo-Classical, and Renaissance design. It has provided a magnificent setting for films such as Manhattan, The Way We Were, and Keeping the Faith.
Alice au pays des merveilles était un cadeau du philanthrope et éditeur George Delacorte. Il avait l’intention de faire un don aux enfants de la ville et de commémorer sa femme récemment décédée, Marguerite (1891-1956). Alice Au Pays Des Merveilles était son livre préféré pour faire la lecture à ses enfants. Le sculpteur hispano-américain José de Creeft a utilisé les illustrations de l’édition originale du livre, qui a été publié en 1865, pour créer les personnages. Il a modelé le visage d’Alice d’après sa fille Donna Maria et le chapelier fou d’après George Delacorte.
Alice in Wonderland was a gift from the philanthropist and publisher George Delacorte. He intended the donation as a gift to the children of the City and a memorial for his recently deceased wife Margarita (1891–1956). Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was her favorite book to read to her children. The Spanish-American sculptor José de Creeft used the illustrations from the original edition of the book, which was published in 1865, to create the characters. He modeled the face of Alice after his daughter Donna Maria and the Mad Hatter after George Delacorte.
The Mall and Literary Walk: Cette large allée droite bordée de deux rangées d’ormes américains a été conçue par les concepteurs du parc Frederick Law Olmsted et Calvert Vaux comme une promenade officielle et un espace de rassemblement. La partie sud est connue comme "Literary Walk" en raison des nombreuses statues d’écrivains qui y ont été ajoutées au XIXe siècle. En 2020, un nouveau monument a été ajouté au parc (le premier en plus de 50 ans), the Women’s Rights Pioneers Monument..
The Mall and Literary Walk: This wide, straight path lined by two rows of American elm trees was designed by Park designers Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux as a formal promenade and gathering space. The southern section of the Mall is known as Literary Walk because of the numerous statues of writers added there in the 19th century. In 2020, this stretch of the Mall became the site of the first new monument added to the Park in over 50 years, the Women’s Rights Pioneers Monument.
Wollman Rink: La patinoire Wollman a été construite en 1950. Le patinage a été l’une des premières activités récréatives à Central Park, lorsque le lac a accueilli des patineurs durant l’hiver 1858.
